At 5 AM CDT July 19th, our web server smile will be upgraded. Smile will get a substantial upgrade of its OS from NetBSD 8.2 to NetBSD 9.4. In addition, smile will get upgraded packages for its web server software and supporting libraries and tools.

We expect the downtime of these upgrades to be around an hour, and adjustments and reconfigurations will follow. I expect to use the entire 3 hours before bringing smile back on line. Any active logins will be terminated at 5 AM. Smile should be back in production by 8 AM CDT, if all goes well.

Smile hosts the web server, ftp service, and command-line (shell) access. These will be unavailable during the downtime. We do not anticipate any downtime on the mail server or on mercy.
