Our mailserver was attacked early this morning with many thousands of unwanted emails. The cause was that two accounts on one domain got hacked. Having two email accounts at their disposal, the spammers took full advantage, and overwhelmed the mailserver to send their junk to well over 1000 domains and many thousnds of messagees.

The mail server was restricted while the job of cleaning out the queues and disposing of the spam proceeded. To the extent possible, no “real” mail was lost, but some users may have noticed that the server was not responding between about 11 AM and 4 PM October 13th.
