Hudson Vintage Neighborhood Alliance

Minutes of the Meeting 9/21/99

Meeting convened at 7:15 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran.

 

Old Business:

·         Karen Neset opened the meeting.  Karen requested that the August Alliance meeting minutes be reviewed and approved.  Karen noted that Alliance meeting minutes will not be published in the Star Observer.

·         Lee Wyland will continue the practice of sending post cards to notify residents of Alliance meetings.  Lee is currently paying for the cost of mailing; in the future as the mailing list grows the Alliance will find a way to fund postage.  It was agreed that Alliance meetings would be held on the fourth Thursday of every month.  Alliance neighborhood meeting notices will be published in the Star Observer.

·         Jerry Washburn reported on access issues at the History Room in the public library.  Jerry noted the History Room would remain locked unless there are staff or volunteers present in the room.  Jerry will meet with the library director again to discuss the possibilities of Alliance members volunteering time to catalogue materials and assist individuals who wish to research materials in the History Room.

·         Lee Wyland reported the database of addresses in the Old Town district of Hudson is completed.  The list will be available to use in conjunction with materials from the LaRowe study for walking tours.  Lee added that the database of contractors is also compiled.  If members wish to add to the contractors database please give the information to Lee.

·         Lee Wyland reported that St. Paul's Episcopal Church home was sold to the St. Pat's Catholic Church.  The home will be used as a residence for the parish nuns.

·         Someone..volunteered to work with the paper and put in meeting notices and news briefs.

·         Karen Neset will contact Denny Darnold, Zoning Administrator and City Planner for the City of Hudson, to request notices of various planning and zoning meetings.

·         Mary Washburn will contact the local cable station to list meeting notices on the local cable station.

·         The Hidden Hudson report was tabled.

 

New Business:

·         There was some discussion regarding dates for the block party planned for next spring.  The second weekend  in May is a strong possibility.  The Chamber of Commerce director offered to help with the coordination the block party.  The block party will be an opportunity  to  meet neighbors in the Old Town area of Hudson, to highlight Alliance issues and can be used as an  opportunity to educate neighbors on preservation issues in the Old Town district.

·         Lee Wyland suggested the Alliance initiate  another membership drive. There was some discussion as to whether the Alliance is focused enough to do a drive.

·         Lee Wyland reported that he would have the Alliance flier added to the Welcome Wagon materials.  Lee also reported on the new city of Hudson website (www.hudsonwi.com).  Lee will pursue the question of linking Alliance information the Hudson website.

·         Karen Neset supplied copies of city of Hudson Directory and copies of alderman district maps.

·         Jackie Cloninger reported that Willis Miller, former writer for the Star Observe, is an historian on local issues, and is a good resource on housing issues.  Jackie shared an article on tax credit for historical homes.

·         Karen Neset showed a slide presentation on the LaRow Study.
