HVNA Meeting Minutes – 9/4/01

In attendance:  Rusty and Cheri Rosenberger, Lee and Laurie Wyland, Scott O’Malley, Chuck Kummeth, Wayne and Jean Haut, Karen Neset, Geri Tresselt.

Lee reviewed meeting minutes from 8/28/01.

Chuck will write a check to Brown’s Ice Cream for $95.50 by 9/10 and give it to Wayne.  Wayne will speak with the ice cream truck guy to tell him that he may not want to travel the block party area since we’re already giving away free ice cream.

Wayne spoke to Econo Foods about using pop machines.  It was suggested that maybe we could use the whole brat stand for serving pop.  Wayne will follow up.

Wayne bought all the candy for the kids games.

Lee asked everyone to keep their block party receipts and give them to Chuck for reimbursement.

Wayne had 400 of Cheri’s flyers printed.  He will get more printed this week.  The following people will distribute flyers:

Wayne will give flyers to Jerry Washburn to distribute in the downtown business area.

Cheri and Geri will distribute on 1st through 3rd streets.

Lee and Laurie will distribute on 4th through 5th streets.

Chuck will distribute on 6th street.

Wayne and Jean will distribute on 7th through 9th streets.

Karen will mail the flyer to the city council members.

Karen and Lee walked down 6th street last weekend to inform all the residents in the block party area of the block party and to inform them to remove their cars from the street.

Someone suggested that we have a donation can at the information table.

Laurie will secure tables and chairs from First Baptist this week.  We will need at least 12 tables.

For liability insurance, Chuck recalled that last year we didn’t do anything and most likely it was because we didn’t need the insurance.  Geri will talk to her neighbor who sells insurance.

Scott brought up another insurance issue.  He said that homeowners insurance does not generally cover backed up sewage in your home, but you can get that coverage for about $15 or $20 per year.  It is worth it since several homes in Hudson have recently experienced that.  The city of Hudson is not liable for this damage so these home owners are stuck with around $10,000 worth of damage.

Karen will get nametags.

Cheri ordered pogs for the ice cream tokens and they are in.  She will get them printed.  The pogs will be distributed at the nametag tables to kids for free ice cream.  Adults will pay 50 cents for ice cream at the ice cream booth.  Wayne will inform the Knoke’s of the need to take money from adults.

For the kid’s parade, Cheri ordered 72 plastic kazoos, 2 dozen mini flutes, 2 dozen mini tambourines and 6 dozen neon pinwheels.

Cheri also ordered 2 100’ neon pennants that can be strung across 6th street.  The cost was only $10.

For the silent auction, Cheri will have the kids decorate a chair.  Lee will get the chair to Cheri this week so she can repaint and re-opolster it.

Cheri will contact Mary Clair Olson, the Hudson Star Observer, and the cable channel for block party notices.

Lee contacted Kitty Rhoades and she, Scott O’Malley and Cathy Morris will be sitting at the official reps table.

Lee will order a port-a-potty this week.

Wayne left a message for Elizabeth Kennedy about doing face painting this year.  He will also contact Genie Castro about it.

Cheri will be doing the CD-size calendars in color this year.  We will sell them for $15 and $7.50 will go to HVNA.  Cheri will be getting a few more house pictures including the Bungalow at 800 Vine St.

Cheri has all the kids craft supplies and Wayne has all the game supplies.

We will sell the walking tour booklet for $2.  Lee has about 10 of these.

Lee will bring the contractor list, house list and member sign up sheets to the party.  Wayne will get a printout of the town so people can mark where they live.

Geri, Cheri and Laurie will bring cameras to the block party.

Lee will call Randy Hanson about news coverage of the block party.

Lee will bring table signs and company sponsor signs to the block party.
