Notes from 8/28 meeting
Tuesday we had a meeting at our home to get an update
on how preparations for the block party are going.
The next two Tuesday's we will also have meetings.
This coming Tuesday will be at Cherie and Rusty's home at 1416 3rd street.
7:00pm.
The minutes will be reviewed on Tuesday but in
general we discussed the preparations.
Wayne presented that the kids activities are coming
along fine, many of the activities and prizes have been purchased. We are
hoping for some donations for door prizes.
Wayne also verified that the band will be there.
Knokes will help us out with the Ice Cream this year.
Anita from Vine Street Florist discussed her plans
for the event and her 25th anniversary.
Sunday Karen and Lee will walk 6th street talking to
people about the block party so they are aware and work through any concerns
they may have.
Cheri made a wonderful presentation of the things she
has been working on for the kids activities, calendars, pins, pogs, parade
hats, and more.
We started putting together a list of names and what
they may do during the event.
If you would like to help out in any way, please send
me a note if you have not already talked to Wayne or someone else.
After Tuesday's meeting I will send out a note with
who is assigned to what that day.
So, next Tuesday, 7:00pm at Cherie and Rusty's home,
1416 3rd. If you need to contact them call (715) 386-7270 or you can call or
e-mail me if you would like something brought up at the meeting or volunteer
for something.
In other business, we spent some time discussing the
issue of rundown property's and landlords as well as zoning, building permits
and speed.
We discussed how to increase our influence as a group
before city council.
When I registered our web address www.hvna.net I had
tried to register www.hvna.org. You may want to visit their web site, they are
also a neighborhood organization doing many of the same things we have in our
charter.
At our next quarterly meeting in October, as well as
reviewing the results of the block party I expect we will be spending some time
discussing strengthening our position with city council and ways we as an
organization can help deal with more of the issues that we see in the
neighborhood as well as how to support our city council members that are
working for change.
We have been successful already with issues like the
keeping homes from becoming commercial property, making proposals to city
council for the use of the jailhouse on 4th street and others. Now we have
other issues we are discussing like land lords and speed that need to be
addressed. We have discussed how we as residence can deal with the situations,
now we need to determine what we as the HVNA can do about the issues.
As it says in our charter "To encourage the
preservation and enhancement of the character and integrity of Hudson's
historical residential neighborhoods."
Hope to see you all on Tuesday for the block party meeting.
