Hudson Vintage Neighborhood Alliance

July 27, 1999

Monthly Meeting Time:

We will meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month.  The meeting time will most likely be at 7pm.  The location will be determined monthly and notices will be sent out prior to each meeting.

Topics for Speakers:

We could have speakers come in quarterly to discuss a variety of topics including:

·         Restoration techniques

·         Zoning (Karen will contact Denny D’Arnold about this)

·         Previous preservation plan (City Council)

Zoning:

·         We need to learn what rules the city plays by.  What happened with the last preservation plan?

·         On 7/29/99 there will be a special zoning meeting about the expansion of Vine St between St. Patrick’s Church and Carmichael (the planning commission turned down a request to zone this area commercial – it will stay residential).

·         The house being sold by the Episcopal Church will be brought forward again to the planning commission to have a special-use permit granted.  We are currently collecting signatures for those who would like it to remain residential and for those willing to help restore it to a home (painting, removing blacktop, etc.).

·         For the parkinglot/jail house issue, it was suggested that we bring our parkinglot suggestion forward to the Park board and Public works board soon since City budget is reviewed in October.  Someone suggested that different organizations could donate benches, trees, etc. for the park area.

Annual Community Gathering:

·         It was suggested that we host an annual community gathering celebrating vintage Hudson.

·         We should first do a block party – it’s a smaller scale event.  Eventually, we could work up to the annual gathering.

·         We should find out what house styles each of us lives in and possibly add these styles to the Hudson walking tour.

Hudson Resource Center:

·         There is no committee anymore at the library to handle the history section.

·         Mary Washburn will find out what it will take to manage this history section.

·         Lee will put together a contractor resource center.

·         We will need to have a disclaimer about the contractor resource list – we don’t guarantee…; we don’t want to rank or rate any of the contractors.

Recognition:

The plaque program has been tabled for now.

Jacque suggested talking with the Star Observer and having a “house of the week” section which would be a couple sentences about the not-so-obvious vintage homes in Hudson.  Jacque will speak with the editor.

We could also have a “garage or carriage house of the month”.  Someone suggested that the newspaper section be titled “Hidden Hudson”.  Everyone loved that idea.

Contacts:

·         The newsletter idea has been tabled.

·         We will do mailings for special news items only.

·         Lee and Rebecca Heidtke will put together a database of everyone in the vintage neighborhood.
