Karen Neset, Sam & Dorothy Nooger, Jody Lundberg, Geri Tresselt, Chri Rosenberger, Matt Romberg, Toni Mott, Mary Washburn, Lee & Laurie Wyland, Scott O'Malley (City Council rep)
Lee passed around the contractor database he has developed. Sam had a suggestion for a chair caning person. Geri had a suggestion for an architect.
Scott O'Malley said that the only zoning item in the downtown area involved Hobbins Antiques at 825 2nd St. The Planning Commission oked a 2 year renewal for their conditional use permit. Scott said that since the Planning Commission does not require approval for any items from City Council, if anyone has concerns about zoning items, please let Scott know and he can notify the Planning Commission about the concerns. Scott also said that there are City ordinances against having refuse, cars, inoperable appliances, etc., in residential areas for over 2 weeks. If anyone has problems with these, they can notify Scott and someone on City Council will write a letter to the violating home owner.
Scott also mentioned that he has 360 gallons of clean home heating oil that he is willing to donate to someone who needs it. Please contact Scott if you know of anyone who could use it.
Chuck Kummeth (Treasurer) was not in attendance. Lee said that we have $139 in our account.
History Week is May 13-19th. The walking tours will be on May 13th at 1pm and 3pm. The Octagon House will include the HVNA walking tour announcement in their opening announcement in the Star Observer. Geri is leading the walking tour efforts. Volunteers for the walking tours include Geri, Lee, Laurie, Jerry, Mary, and maybe Cheri. We're looking at having two volunteers for 1pm and two for 3pm. Geri suggested have pictures of the homes in the walking tour booklet. Lee will look into incorporating photos into the Access database info. Both the Haut's home and the Mott's home are on the National Registry and these should be noted in the walking tour booklet. Geri and Cheri had some ideas on advertising the walking tours: cable TV, posters for downtown stores. Also it was suggested that we have a collection spot for people to donate to HVNA.
Lee collected some documents from the City detailing the Hudson Preservation Ordinance that was never passed. Karen is going to look through those and make some suggestions on how we can change the ordinance so that it is more acceptable to the community. Lee mentioned that the Wisconsin state law indicates that Hudson requires an historic preservation plan.
Lee presented an idea for "volunteer" stickers or buttons. Everyone liked the sticker idea best. We just need to correct the spelling of "voluneer" to "volunteer"!
The annual HVNA block party is scheduled for Sept 15th. Wayne said that the band from last year is already lined up and we can pay them the same as last year ($375). Also, Vine St Floral is celebrating its 25th anniversary and Anita is willing to split the cost of the band with us. The block party will be held on the 6th St block between Vine and Orange, although this year we're going to use only half of that space (towards Vine St.). We need to do a better job this year of getting cars off the street.
Wayne spoke with Helen at Econo Foods for setting up a Brat Stand again this year to raise money. He has signed us up for June 1-3rd at the downtown store, and we could also do another weekend later in the summer. We need to supply our own grill, cooking utensils, and 4 coolers. Econo will supply 3 cansiters of pop. All the food needs to be purchased at Econo. Times for the stand will be Friday 4-7pm, Saturday 10:30am-7pm, and Sunday 10:30am-2pm.
Cheri had some craft ideas for the block party. Special "stained glass" painting and rock painting. She also developed a new calendar format in a CD jewel case. We think this will go over big and we could probably get $15 per calendar. Karen suggested that we also continue with the larger wall-hanging format.
The HVNA garage sale is set for May 19th in the Presbytarian Church parking lot from 9am to 2pm. It was suggested that full donations to HVNA would be easier than asking for only a percentage to go to HVNA. Chuck volunteered to organize this event - Lee will contact him since he wasn't at the meeting. Cheri suggested doing a press release in the Star Observer.
None.
Next HVNA meeting will be at the Haut's (803 Orange St) on Tuesday, July 17th.
Respectfully submitted,
Laurie Wyland
