HVNA Meeting Minutes

April 17th, 2002

Location: Octagon House Historical Museum

Present:  Geri Tresselt, Dorothy Nooger, Lee Wyland, Cheri Rosenberger,  Matt Romberg, Jon Hester,  Jean Haut, Karen Neset, Anita,  and Others

Guest Speakers:  Delores Taavola and Eldora Larson spoke on the Octagon House. The history of the house and the family.

They told us about the archives, the mission and goals of the historical society.

A little about what happens each week, how the archives and artifacts are preserved.

It was a good presentation. I think everyone got a better feeling for what the historical society’s goals are and how our interests and those of the historical society have definite things in common.

We also learned that their spring meeting is on the same day as our next meeting, May 21st.  They have asked if we would like to join them for their meeting. The meeting will take place at the Phipps. They will be sending out invitations.

We can hold our meeting just before or just after if we have anything to discuss.

As with our organization, theirs always needs volunteers.

They are especially looking for people who would be willing to fulfill research requests.

Treasurers Report:  No report given

Zoning Issues:  No issues were discussed

Brat Stand:  The brat stand will be set up in the City Market parking lot on July 12th-14th and August 16th-18th.

Chuck checked about using the brat stand trailer for the block party and it may work.  386-5858

Music & Arts Festival (July 19th-21st):  Decision was made not to attempt this for 2002.

Walking Tour:  Geri and Cheri will meet to discuss walking tour and will bring back info to next meeting.

Should we take reservations for tours and have scheduled tour times?

Karen will find site and cost of banner.

Block Party:  We will discuss block party funding at the next meeting.  Public service, finger printing for children.  Invite Kitty, Scot, and another city council rep.  Possibly have fire truck at block party.
